Yoga Nidra

What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is also known as yogic sleep. Nidra is the Sanskrit word for sleep. Although this is a bit of a contradiction because the goal is to stay awake, and become more aware. It is a guided meditation and conscious relaxation practice that is intended to induce total physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. Unlike other types of meditation you lie on the floor very still, supported by any “props” (blankets, bolsters, blocks) so that your body, mind and spirit can be totally relaxed. The goal is not to “empty the mind”, but instead to become one with awareness. It is a guided meditation that helps us go deep into the theta brain waves.

The magazine Yoga Journal reported “Both meditation and Yoga Nidra help activate the relaxation response and improve the functioning of your nervous system and endocrine system, which affects your hormones. Both meditation and yoga nidra help cells regenerate and repair, and both help decrease anxiety and improve your mood.”

Why do a session with Phyllis?

Yoga Nidra is a practice that can be done virtually or in person. It can also be done in a small group or a private individual session.

Some of the benefits of practicing Yoga Nidra with me are:

I incorporate playing crystal bowls into the Yoga Nidra session so you get the benefit of both modalities. You can also do a Yoga Nidra session followed by Vibrational Sound Therapy or a sound bath for a full mind, body, spirit immersive experience.

I spend the necessary time to get to know you first. I want to know more about you, and why you want to practice Yoga Nidra. This will help us to make it the best possible experience for you. This also gives you a personal connection with your practitioner so you feel safe, supported and can experience Yoga Nidra on an even deeper level. You can ask questions and we can figure out together what it is that you want to work on because there isn’t just one script and each session is different.

I am trained in trauma informed care with the motto of “do no harm” therefore I will always be mindful of this during all sessions with all clients.
